We believe that investing in our newly qualified, and return to practice, clinical employees at the start of your employment, demonstrates our commitment to you. We recognise that the transition from student to qualified clinician can be daunting; therefore you will be supported by our innovative Educators in Practice, together with your clinical lead.
This year-long preceptorship programme, which begins on the day you start work, is designed to give you the best possible start in your journey to being an autonomous health care professional. You will go on to develop confidence, refine skills, values and behaviours and to continue on the journey of life-long learning.
The preceptorship is a combination of taught sessions and reflective activities in your new workplace over a period of 12 months. The programme is designed to meet the 9 preceptorship domains as set out by the Capital Nurse 2017 work, supported by Health Education England. It includes protected time for research and undertaking of a Service Improvement Project, and for shadowing your peers in other disciplines/services. These sessions also cover theoretical aspects of the programme, combined with group and individual reflection, and in Action Learning Sets.
Your preceptorship period will cover:
- Clinical practice
- Communication
- Teamwork
- Leadership
- Professionalism and integrity
- Research and evidence
- Safety and quality
- Facilitation of learning
- Development of self and others
