Two representatives from Solent NHS Trust’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) were invited to Buckingham Palace on Wednesday 1 May to attend a reception hosted by Her Majesty The Queen.
The event took place in London to recognise those who support survivors of sexual assault and to mark the relaunch of Her Majesty’s Wash Bags project. The project originally launched in 2017 and provided individuals receiving support at a UK SARC with a variety of toiletries for use following the forensic examination.
One of the Solent attendees, Victoria Dawson, Crisis Worker, said: “Providing comfort and support at time of great need is the main reason we do what we do. However, it was an incredible honour to be invited to the reception and receive acknowledgement from Her Majesty The Queen. It was a lovely day, and something I will cherish forever.”
Based in Portsmouth, the crisis worker team at The Treetops Centre provide advice, independent advocacy, and support with practical matters to anyone who has been raped or sexually assaulted.
The service is confidential and free to access for any residents who live in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Anyone can access the service, regardless of their decision to report the assault to the police.
