A dedicated healthcare support worker at Solent NHS Trust receives a national award
Mandy Sharp has received the NHS England Chief Nursing Officer Support Worker Award in recognition of her compassion towards patients and their families.
The Chief Nursing Officer Awards were developed to recognise the significant and outstanding contribution made by nurses in England. The awards have also been extended as part of Dame Ruth May’s commitment to recognising the contributions of healthcare support workers who consistently demonstrate NHS values in their everyday roles.
Mandy was nominated by her previous line manager, who wrote: “Mandy fitted in with the team instantly and is an absolute pleasure to work with. Her smile and laugh are contagious, and she is always happy to go above and beyond for others.
“A core member in Mandy’s family had a life changing diagnosis but she still gives her all at home and at work. She is so supportive to the entire team and recently became infection control lead as well, a role she has taken to fantastically. We are thankful to have her on our team, and I’m sure there are many others that are grateful to have Mandy in their lives.”
Mandy’s daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer but has recently got the all-clear.
Speaking about the award, Mandy said: “I’m incredibly proud and humbled that my team feel I deserved this award. Everyone in my team is so helpful and kind, it makes it easy to come to work.”
Echoing the nomination, Vicky White, Mandy’s current manager, said: “Mandy is a valued member of the nurse and healthcare assistant team. Her caring, calm and approachable character makes her a great support for patients and her colleagues. She works hard and is never seen without a smile on her face. We are very lucky to have Mandy on our team.”
