Domiciliary Phlebotomy

Service provided to housebound adults over the age of 16 who are registered with a Southampton GP. Service provision is for people who are unable to leave their house for transportaion in a standard domestic vehicle without other than basic assistance, or who are terminally ill. Provides samples for a range of blood tests using agreed methods e.g vacutainer, butterfly or needle.

Referral Criteria

 

Patients are visted by the Phlebotomist according to the referral priority.

Patients who do not fit the Housebound Criteria or cannot give consent to treatment are excluded.

Full service description

The service was set up in December 2005 to provide a housebound service across the City.  The service provides approximately 12,000 venesections per annum.

To provide a domicillary phlebotomy service for housebound patient.  Service provision is for people who are unable to leave their house for transportation in a standard domestic vehicle without other than basic assistance, or who are terminally ill.

This service is for patients registered with Southampton City Clinical Commissioning Group.

Referral Criteria

 

Patients are visted by the Phlebotomist according to the referral priority.

Patients who do not fit the Housebound Criteria or cannot give consent to treatment are excluded.
